Promoting Diversity and Inclusion in the Fund Industry

Increasing diversity and inclusion (D&I) in the asset management industry continues to be a key goal for ICI and ICIEF.

D&I initiatives include the Talent Connection—a series of webinars and other events that introduce students from underrepresented communities to the asset management industry and the substantial career opportunities available to them.

Law School Students

Talent Connection events have been offered to law school students throughout the United States. At these events, ICI and industry representatives share information about the asset management industry and how it serves investors, the range of legal and compliance career opportunities in the industry, and insights into a day in the life of an asset management lawyer.

Undergraduates

Webinars also have been designed for undergraduate students attending a range of colleges and universities, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Hispanic-Serving Institutions. At these events, asset management professionals representing various career paths—including investments, operations, and sales/marketing—introduce the fund industry, recount their own career journeys, and provide advice for obtaining jobs and achieving success in asset management.

Resumé Collections

Talent Connection program attendees may submit their resumés to a repository that is accessible only to ICI member firms. These firms may contact participants directly regarding internship and job possibilities. More information about the resumé repositories is available on the Talent Connection section of ICI’s website.

ICI member firms must log in to review a list of undergrad student resumés and law student resumés on the Talent Connection section of ICI’s website.

ICI assumes no responsibility and disclaims all liability for the resumés and related data associated with the Talent Connection program.

I enjoyed hearing about the different pathways the panelists took to get into the industry. I thought it was good to demonstrate that there isn't one single way to go about looking for work in this area. I also thought the point about this area being a very small place where everyone knows everyone was useful.”

I thought the speakers were really engaging and I learned a lot.”

Very informative and really helps a lot to understand the asset management industry in general and the different roles within the industry.”

I got an insight of the day to life of an asset manager and also knowing that an entry into the financial career arena is not linear.”
